Allium haematochiton

Occasional in clay soils, mostly grasslands and grassy openings in coastal sage scrub, chaparral and Tecate cypress forest; San Joaquin Hills, southern foothills and Santa Ana Mountains (Roberts). Grows from oblong  bulbs clustered on a short, stout rhizome, 2-3 cm.; outer coat reddish brown, with finely striate sculpture; inner coats deep red to white (JM2) Photo of bulbs.
