California or Birch-leaf Mountain Mahogany Cercocarpus betuloides var. betuloides A much-branched shrub or small tree up to 20 ft. tall, common on dry rocky slopes in chaparral in the Santa Ana Mountains with small populations in southern San Joaquin Hills and Lomas de Santiago.
