Waterleaf
family plants are mostly herbs, a few shrubby, with mainly alternate leaves.
The tubular flowers are 5-parted and are often on coiled stems.
The 5 stamens alternate with the lobes of the flower tube.
There are 2 styles, a superior ovary and the fruit is a capsule.
Most
of the members of this family are North American and are concentrated in the
West. (Dale 121).
There are 18 genera and about 250 species in this family. (Bailey 828).
