Erodium botrys
The
members of this family are herbs with lobed or compound leaves.
The radially symmetrical flowers have 5 sepals, 5 petals and stamens in
circles of 5,10, or 15. The family
is especially characterized by the long beak on the fruit, like the beak on a
crane. The mature fruit splits into
parts, which then curl up spilling their seeds.
In
cultivation geraniums and pelargoniums are well regarded for their large
colorful flowers. (Dale 119).
There are 11 genera and about 640 species, widely distributed in temperate and subtropical regions. (Bailey 593).
