Plant Characteristics: Biennial, with 1-several slender erect stems 5-12 dm. high, glandular, sweet-scented, early greenish and glabrate; lvs. lance-linear, mostly 2-6 cm. long, larger cauline lvs. 5-7 mm. wide, all generally withered at flowering; infl. a large terminal +/- oblong panicle; invol. 4-5 mm. high, turbinate, flowers 40-50, pistillate corollas 3-3.5 mm.; pappus bristles free; phyllaries dull white to green, often pinkish, +/- rounded to pointed.

Habitat:  Occasional, dry slopes, below 1500 ft.; Coastal Strand, Coastal Sage Scrub, Chaparral; near the coast from San Diego Co. to cent. Calif.  March-Sept.

 

Name:  See G. microcephalum for origin of the genus name.  Ramosissimum means much branched.  (Dale 67).  Latin, ramulosus, many branched.  (Jaeger 217).

 

General:  Occasional in the study area.  This plant is common on the bank below the intersection of Eastbluff Dr. and Jamboree Rd.  Photographs were taken at 23rd Street and Big Canyon. (my comments).
