Plants
of the Stonecrop Family are succulent, fleshy herbs or shrubs.
The flowers (rarely solitary) have sepals, petals and pistils that are
all distinct and numbering the same whether from 3 to 12.
The stamens are as many, or twice as many, as the petals.
The fruit is a special kind of pod that opens only on one side.
Many
of the species of this family are used in gardens because of the neat habit of
the ornamental foliage. Hen and
Chickens (Echeveria spp.) and Kalanchoe are
favorite patio plants. (Dale 101).
