Plant Characteristics:  Succulent perennial, woody at base, stems slender, branching, rough with small pustules, sub-decumbent, 1-2 dm. long; lvs. cylindrical, somewhat curved, 1-1.5 cm. long, obtuse, glittering from minute papillae; peduncles solitary, 2-3 cm. long; fls. 2-2.5 cm. in diam.; calyx-segms. equal, linear, obtuse, 3-4 mm.; petals 1-2 seriate, rose, 8-9 mm.

Habitat:  Established near the beach, Santa Barbara and Ventura Cos.  Summer.

Name:  Dorosan-themum, flowers resembling drosera.  (Bailey 363).  Latin, floridus, abounding in flowers.  (Jaeger 103).

General:  Occasional in the study area.     This and several related ssp.  bloom each spring near the bluff tops where they have been planted in front of the homes located there.  This specimen is from the Castaways Bluffs where it was probably thrown years ago as cuttings from the gardens around the old Castaways restaurant.  The restaurant burned in 1956 or 1957.  (my comments).     About 100 species of South Africa.  (Munz, Flora So. Calif. 56).
