Distribution worldwide on hard woods, producing white rot in its host. It is the fungus commonly found on the toenails of homeless folks who do not remove their shoes for months or years. Specimens were sealed in a tube in 1911, then moistened 50 years later. Their gills unrolled and began shedding spores. Widely used in genetic studies because it fruits readily in the laboratory. |
