Calyx is 5-cleft, green to
red-purple; corolla is 2-lipped, the lower purple or violet and the upper
lighter, occasionally both all white. The lower lip is folded at the midline
forming a narrow pocket in which are enclosed 4 stamens and female structures.
As pollinators alight, the lower lip is depressed exposing these organs to facilitate pollination. (Clarke et al., 2007, p. 337). |
