California Fuchsia

Epilobium canum

A fall-blooming 1-3 ft. perennial with 4 scarlet sepals and 4 two-cleft petals which form a very long floral tube.  They are (not surprisingly!) hummingbird pollinated.  There are 8 stamens.  The fruit is a 3/4 in. 4-sided pod. Called the salvation of the native plant gardener because it provides some color when not many other plants do!
